A Message from the President

Mar 4, 2021, 08:30 AM
Annual Message
Whew!  2020 was quite a year that certainly took us out of the semi-predictable world that we operate in.  But even though it was unpredictable, with many challenges that necessitated adjustments and changes to how we serve all of you, your credit union moved strongly forward because of the tremendous support we receive from our members and the resulting financial stability established over many years.

As the year began, we expected modest loan growth for both consumer loans and mortgage loans.  However, with the closing of our lobbies from March to June, loan activity was curtailed.  The month of May saw activity pick up somewhat as we introduced electronic signature capability.  Then once our lobbies re-opened, loan production increased significantly.  As mortgage loan rates sank to record lows, we originated a record 121 loans for $17 million.  Consumer loans also started to rebound.  New member activity and checking account activity also rebounded.  The challenges continue, but strategies are in place to put us in a position for success despite the unpredictable environment.

This past year brought yet another opportunity to expand our field of membership. As you may recall, in 2019 we expanded our field of membership from 5 counties to a total of 15, which constituted a large part of northeast Nebraska.  After a court ruling this past fall, we were given the green light to add an additional 4 counties.  Now with 19 counties we are looking forward to introducing others to the credit union difference of people helping people. With our expanded area and $76 million in assets, we have the tools to place us in a position to be the “first choice for financial products and services”.

I would pass along our thanks to the board of directors and supervisory committee for their continuing support of the staff in the midst of anxious times. Their commitment to the membership should be commended as we take steps to execute a vision that expands opportunity for so many people who need solid financial support.

The credit union staff is committed to serving you with excellence and look forward to a prosperous 2021.
